Introduction to our beautiful country

Zambia is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa. Neighboring countries include Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. The geography of Zambia is mostly high plateau with some mountains.

The name Zambia is derived from the name of the Zambezi River, which begins life in the north west corner of the country. It is one of the great rivers of the world, yet apart from the Victoria Falls most of is virtually unknown to the world – it is the Zambezi. See the full story of its journey and the life that the river controls through its seasons of flood and drought.

The landlocked country has experienced rapid economic growth over the last decade as Africa's second largest copper producer after the DR Congo. But its over-reliance on copper has made it vulnerable to falling commodity prices.

Zambia also has one of the world's fastest growing populations with the UN projecting that its population will triple by 2050.

Most rural Zambians still live in poverty due to the urbanised pattern of development and investment.
